From the moment of conception we are told how boys are different from girls. “oh boys are always late - they don’t want to come out” “You’re carrying high and neat - must be a boy” “you’re blooming - must be a boy”
Almost immediately we realize that boys ARE different from girls, yet as a rule it is Mothers who spend most time raising them. That's Venetians raising Martians. How do we deal with these alien creatures and raise them to be the sensitive, brave, caring, strong, masculine ‘new’ men the world now requires them to be?
At the beginning of time it was easy. ‘Cave men’ went out, killed the meat, provided food for their family, mated their ‘cave ladies’ and then probably just slept. Don't really think they'd get away with that these days!
I have two boys aged 3 (3YO) and 5 months (5MO). Physically they're very similar, but so far there personalities are poles apart. 3YO was 2 weeks late, I had a 50+ hour labour, he had reflux, colic, and cried what felt like 24/7. 5MO was a week early, I had a 2 hour labour and he's been an absolute dream. I fully realise though that the hard work starts here and I am quite terrified of the job I have to do.
